OVERVIEW

Hamilton Lakes Hornets participate in the Community Swim Association. The team is made up of kids ages 5 through seniors in High School. Each week Hamilton Lakes will swim in a dual meet against another team that finished either a little ahead of or a little behind us at the City Championship. Upon completion of the Dual Meet season, a City Swimming Championship is held over a three-day period at Greensboro’s Lindley Pool swimming complex.
Participation on the swim team, builds discipline, encourages fitness, and develops swimming skills. During dual meets, swimmers are timed and scored in the four major strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly). Children are encouraged to do their own personal best, while being part of a team effort.
All parents of Hamilton Lakes swimmers are asked to work at least two swim meets per season. Job descriptions are in the Parent Handbook. Please sign up on the Volunteer Sheet posted in the clubhouse.

JUNIOR Swim Team
WE ARE NO LONGER OFFERING THE BUMBLEBEE SWIMMING PROGRAM
We have a new program to replace the Bumblebee program that we feel will help with the continuity of our swim program and help better prepare your kids for swim team. Our new program is called the Junior Swim Team and it will be lead by Barbara Vaughan and Frances Deering. Barbara and Frances are both certified WSI’s (Water Safety Instructors) and between the two of them, they have over 35 years of experience teaching swim lessons.
The first session of Junior Swim Team is going to be offered at the same time as our pre-season clinics for the existing swim team. There will be 8 sessions starting on Sunday, April 18th. The sessions will be on the following Saturdays and Sundays 4/24, 4/25, 5/1, 5/2, 5/8, 5/9 and ending on Saturday, May 15th. They will teach 10 kids during a 45 minute session from 2:30-3:15 and then an additional 10 kids from 3:15-4:00. This first session of Junior Swim Team will be held at the pool at Greensboro College (old YMCA) on the corner of Market St. and Tate St.
Now, how do you know if your child is ready for the Junior Swim Team? First of all, this is a stepping stone to swim team, so you would not do this program if your intent was not for your child to join swim team. Click here to see "Swim Levels", a document to help you discover various WSI levels that help you figure out where your child is currently and where he/she needs to be to join swim team.
Your child needs to be at a level 3 for swim team.
You can register for the Junior Swim Team program at Jive @ the Hive, which is our registration day. This will be Saturday, April 17th from 3-5pm at the clubhouse (drop-in anytime). The cost for Junior Swim Team is $75.00 for the eight 45 minute sessions. If your child is then placed on the swim team, you will receive a 50% reduction in dues. Either Barbara or Frances will be at Jive @ the Hive to answer your questions. Please feel free to contact Barbara via email at bartisvaughan@earthlink.net or Frances at deerinf@gcsnc.com.

Swim Meet Reminders:
- All swimmers please report to the Hamilton Lakes Pool by 4:45
- For our new families, Hamilton Lakes Parents sit on the left side of the pool by the tennis courts.
- All swimmers will sit by the Lap Pool. Parents please help us keep all swimmers in this area so that the tent parents do not have to search the pool for them.
- Make sure that your swimmer eats before the meet. Ideally pasta or a sandwich would be best (something with carbohydrates). Burgers and candy can actually hinder their performance.
- BRING SNACKS! the swimmers will get hungry at the meet. Power bars, cereal bars, cereal, and Gatorade are examples of great snacks to eat during a meet.

The Community Swim Association (CSA) is a nonprofit organization comprised of 22 local swim clubs in the Greensboro, NC metropolitan area. CSA encourages and promotes competitive summer swimming as a part of the programs offered by the member community pools. Each of the swim clubs has two CSA representatives who attend organizational meetings and vote on CSA rules and policies.
CSA conducts weekly dual meets over a five-week period beginning in June and ending in mid-July. Beginning in 2007, the dual meet schedule is determined according to the order of finish in the previous year’s City Championship Meet.
